Someone gave me a grow-a-head for Christmas. Does anyone know what kind of fertilizers it contains?

Question by Gypsy R: Someone gave me a grow-a-head for Christmas. Does anyone know what kind of fertilizers it contains?
I’d put it in my betta tank but now the water is all turning brown. Is this just because of the cocopeat, and will it go away? The website says it contains fertilizer, but not what kind and I’m not sure if it’s safe for my fish. Maybe this was a bad idea… lol

You guessed it– it was a bad idea to put that thing in a fish tank.
If it contains cocopeat or other potting material, that is no doubt what is turning the water brown.
It doesn’t really matter what kind of fertilizer is in it– Take it out of the tank right now, and change all the water in the fish tank.

Why did you put a pot of grass seed in your fish tank in the first place?

House plant fertiliser contains nitrogen, potassium and pot ash, farmers are fined thousands of pounds for letting it get into water courses because it kills fish.

Might be an idea to take it out and put it on a window sill where it belongs, then do a 50% emergency water change followed by daily 10% till the water becomes clear again.

Thanks for making me smile and I hope the fish survives.
